We're lucky to have an Advisory Board of experienced researchers, all with PhDs. They've mentored students and scientists at every level, and they bring that same support to our club as we learn to read research, think critically, and write about science.
Cheryl Mae Craft, PhD
Ophthalmology
Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California
Dr. Craft is a molecular neuroscientist who studies how genes in the brain and eye work together for normal vision. When they stop working, it may lead to blindness. Also, she is President of the J. D. French Alzheimer's Foundation and is a dedicated mentor to students.
Grace Lee, PhD
Vision Science, Stanford University
Dr. Lee is a vision scientist who studies inherited eye diseases like achromatopsia, a form of color blindness. Her research looks at what happens when proteins inside the eye's light-sensing cells don't form correctly, and how that damage can lead to vision loss. She enjoys working with and encouraging young students.
Soyun Kim, PhD
Neuroscience & Memory, UC Irvine
Dr. Kim is a neuroscientist who studies how the brain forms and stores memories, focusing on a region called the hippocampus that helps us remember scenes, places, and experiences. She also explores how memory changes with aging and in Alzheimer's disease, and she loves sharing the science of the brain with students.
